We interview our new MD Phillip Hutton.

Phillip, firstly a huge welcome to the team- great to have you on board. Can you tell us a little about yourself and your working background?

I’m delighted to be joining JANS Modular as Managing Director and really looking forward to working with everyone. I’ve been working in the modular industry all my working life which to date is 33 years and have really enjoyed and continue to enjoy the challenge of product and market development. I’m delighted to have been involved with The McAvoy Group and ESS Modular and have been at the forefront of market development for many years seeing the modular product range develop in many sectors including healthcare, education, commercial, defense, justice, leisure, and residential, I’ve worked with teams to develop products in all of these sectors and secured some really exciting projects over the years.

How do you see JANS Modular growing in the next few years?

MMC continues to progress in exciting and innovative ways and now more than ever the target markets continue to expand into new areas. I’m really excited to be a part of JANS Modular who clearly have developed a fantastic product range and significant market opportunity in glamping pods, floating lodges, park homes and specifically a bespoke design and build service.

I’m really looking forward to developing the strategy to achieve ambitious targets in revenue growth delivering exceptional quality and service levels to our client base as well as assisting the teams move into and develop new areas of opportunity in residential markets embracing our Dream, Design, Deliver mission statement.

Tell us about your new role, and what motivates you.

Working with the JANS Modular teams and developing strong relationships internally and also externally with our client base.

I’m motivated to see growth and achieve year on year structured development. Providing unrivalled quality and service standards and delivering for our clients and ultimate end users ensuring that we leave people enthused with their Jans Modular experience.

Working with teams and individuals, helping to support and mentor people and see our staff develop in their roles with a sense of joy and pride in what they do is really important and a real motivation as Managing Director.

What has been your biggest challenge so far?

Always lots of challenges in a construction environment and over the past few years in particular trying to operate a live construction business during covid was a real ask. However, embrace the challenges and try to remain calm, and stick together as a team with a sense of perspective through it all, and generally, you make it through them.

What has been your favorite professional moment to date?

I’ve been fortunate to secure many “first “ projects in my time in modular construction. 1st modular operating theatre in Northern Ireland, Weather Observations Laboratory for the Met Office in Shetland, 1st modular housing units designed and developed by ESS Modular into the UK Market. However, a really pleasing moment was securing a single source supply of modular apartments (up to 200) for an initiative in London focused purely on those registered as homeless. Knowing and seeing first hand our business and product deliver real impact to people was very rewarding.

What do you like to do when not at work? Any hobbies?

Lots of things I like to do. I coach boys U15 football at Knockbreada Academy and generally am a football fanatic, though unfortunately support Tottenham.

I also enjoy drumming and have a bit of a covers band in place (Loose Change!)

It’s also great to have family time with wife Jane, son Jacob and son Sam (living in Liverpool), and Bailey the dog!

We attend Gilnahirk Baptist Church as a family and enjoy our time there
